Manage the Heartbreak That Writes Our Existence
There are seven places in the world that represent the earth’s chakras. The earth’s heart chakra is Mt. Haleakala, a volcano on Maui.
Last month’s fire on Maui, most notably in Lahaina, has been devastating. My heart goes out to the community and all those impacted by this tragedy.
I’ve walked down the now unrecognizable streets of Lahaina with my family. I watched my daughter surf her first wave in the break where people took refuge. I have earthed in the shade of the magnificent 150-year-old banyan tree that is scorched.
Remarkably, the tree is still breathing.
We’ve all had a broken heart, and sometimes it just feels that way… persistently.
There are times when we are in the depths, and seeing solace beyond our fingertips feels impossible. The beauty of it is we are resilient and with a shift and change in focus, what feels insurmountable is obtainable.
When things feel broken, it is how we manage that heartbreak that writes our existence. The Japanese practice of kintsugi, repairing broken pottery with gold. It celebrates our imperfections and cracks, and reminds us there is positivity even when it feels like things have fallen apart.
To revisit, look, feel and remember your scars can be daunting, isolating and make you feel like you’re on an island. But it doesn’t have to feel that way. Humans, like Maui, are unique but not alone. Every resilient, growth-minded heartbeat reminds us that we are mended with beautiful imperfections. Both cherish and envision how remarkable you are.
Cheers and peace be the journey.
